Fleeting memory: Windy days best for rushing up trees

On a gusty, late October 2012 day this happened...

Tortoise Cat: Chameleon, I rushed up a tree in the breezes, then down head-first, then rolled both ways, then munched cat-grass -- fun! Now I'm heading toward the shrubbery to hide from stronger wind gusts.

Chameleon: OK, Tortoise Cat. Sun fun!

Tortoise Cat: EYOW -- Cat-Grass Season is over!

Tortoise Cat: Chameleon, Cat-Grass Season is over. This new home territory is some colder than wherever that was we lived before, isn't it?

Chameleon: Yes, Tortoise Cat, there are more critters and trees here, but fewer degrees. The Deeper-Dreaming Season -- my favorite -- has begun.

Tortoise Cat: EYOW, I dread the frosty, icy stones stinging my toes!

Chameleon: But, remember, you have some more cushions here, too.

Tortoise Cat: EYOW, I meant to learn hibernation. Maybe during the next Cat-Grass Season I shall succeed.

Chameleon: Dream on it, Tortoise Cat!

Tortoise Cat: Now Chameleon, can you blow some of your hot air on my paws while I tiptoe-rumpus a while in these amazing, smelly grayish-purple leaves (that the Big One insists "glow golden, orange and yellow")?

Tortoise Cat shows bright furs amid lush ferns

Tortoise Cat: I could elude the Big One by creeping deeper into the lush ferns, shrubs and hedges of this garden territory, Chameleon.

Chameleon: Tortoise Cat, I would tattle-tale your location, for your own good!

Tortoise Cat: But I would only disappear for a while...or two...or some...just for fun.

Chameleon: The Big One is too busy to wander around looking for you...while worrying.

Tortoise Cat: So, what does worrying mean, Chameleon?

Chameleon: It's like fright, without flight, happening and happening, again and again and again, before any scary happenings actually happen.

Tortoise Cat: EYOW! Beyond comprehension! I shall play on.

Tortoise Cat roams harness-free

Tortoise Cat in the Autumn Garden, Harness Free
Tortoise Cat: Being able to roam the garden harness-free with breezes ruffling my furs was wonderful! I hope the Big One wants to take more furry pictures of me soon.

Chameleon: When you climb a tree too high and get scared and yowl, I wonder...Is THAT sort of rumpus your idea of fun, Tortoise Cat?

Tortoise Cat: So, tell me Chameleon, how did I get back down so suddenly?

Chameleon: Naturally, I shape-shifted into a dragon and flew you back down to the bench! Do you not remember?

Tortoise Cat: Happily, the fright-full memory has blurred already.

Chameleon: Really? Blurring memories on purpose is one of the simplest shape-shifting techniques.

Tortoise Cat climbs trees suddenly

EYOW...Trees are the funnest neighbors on the block!
Tortoise Cat: I'm never "posing" for the Big One's picture-play when I rush up a tree. So, I never show off my best side. That's what the Big One exclaims, often.

Chameleon:  Yes, Tortoise Cat, as pretty, cute and adorable as you are, you are remarkably non-photogenic. But that adds challenge for the Big One's photography "play" — and not all cats like to pose for photo-ops just to look elegant and show off their beauty.

Tortoise Cat: I enjoy our conversations, Chameleon, but after a few sentences, I am usually lost.

Chameleon: That's OK, Tortoise Cat. Go climb another tree. Uh..wait. You'd better just climb a shrub, until the Big One returns.
